Moving Tips

ALLLLL of your responses are below, but to recap, here are some of my favorites:

  • Declutter BEFORE packing! Don’t bring junk with you that you don’t want.

  • Label boxes with a color coded system of some sort (stickers, masking tape, etc…) and then put a piece of coordinating construction paper on the doorframe of the room it belongs in in the new house.

  • Hire movers :)

  • Lazy Genius has a podcast about moving.

  • A Slob Comes Clean has a podcast about moving, too!

  • Trash bags over clothes on hangers. Poke a hole in the top for the hook of the hanger and drape all your clothes inside the trash bag. Easy to hang.

  • Pack rooms as they are now, not how you expect them to be in the new house - easier to remember where things might be.

  • Have a last day/first day box - toilet paper, trash bags, shower curtain, bedding, etc…

  • Pack for your family like you’re going on a 4 day vacation so you can survive without finding everything right away!

  • Moving bags on Amazon!

  • Put a thin or foam paper plate between glass plates and bowls instead of wrapping them.

  • Have a cleaning crew deep clean your new house before you move in.

  • So many people suggesting to pack books in suitcases. I thought this was crazy until the 5th person suggested it, so you might be on to something!

  • Saran wrap kitchen drawer organizers with contents in them.
